Luis Carlos Csekö

The composer L.C.Csekö has represented Brazil in experimental multimedia music, intermedia events in Europe and the USA. He is also a producer of events such as - INTERFACES (featuring his own work), MÚSICA DO SÉCULO 21 and MÚSICA, TECNOLOGIA & MULTIMEIOS/NuMExI-RJ - concerts with Brazilian composers and performers with a significant output. This activity is deeply concerned with the reaching and formation of lay audiences. Csekö is founder/executive director of the Núcleo de Música Experimental & Intermidia do Rio de Janeiro (NuMExI-RJ). 

In his own words: “…the interface of music, light and image is a basic characteristic of my oeuvre…my work is an assemblage of experimental music, visual and sonic intervention….by “assemblage of experimental music” I mean avant-garde procedures, deconstruction/construction of rhythms and styles, being them the typically Brazilian such as Batucada, Afoxé, Maracatu, Chorinho, Samba or Jazz and Rock´n Roll…the visual intervention consists of light, scenic and sonic design, the decoupage of the music gestural, movement, scene…the sonic intervention encompasses amplification, spatialization, propagation, acoustic processing….”  

In the field of Pedagogy he conducts the OFICINA DE LINGUAGEM MUSICAL - OLM (Music Language Workshop) throughout Brazil in the college circuit, cultural institutions, for professional, lay audiences and children. He created the OLM in 1970 to develop his research on the process of creation and contemporary experimental music as instruments of Education. A lecturer at the principal conferences and seminars in Brazil and author of several published articles in Music and Composition he teaches on a regular basis at Conservatório Brasileiro de Música/RJ, Funarte. 

L.C.Csekö was born in Salvador, Bahia/Brazil, 1945, studied music at Universidade Federal da Bahia, Universidade de Brasília and has a Master of Music, Composition degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder, Columbia University/NY.
